SUMMARY:'Can atoms calculate?' Public lecture by Tilman Pfau.
DESCRIPTION:Location: Lecture hall V47.02, Pfaffenwaldring 47, University of Stuttgart, campus Vaihingen\nQuantum computers are on everyone's lips and a startup scene worth billions Euros as well as basic research are constantly reporting on milestones, records, and breakthroughs. But how does a quantum computer actually work, what does it need and what hardware platforms are available? And what is it useful for?\nUsing the example of a comparatively young but very promising platform based on neutral atoms, the lecture will discuss the basic functionality, the current status and technological challenges as well as the prospects for quantum computers.\nThe foyer of lecture hall V47.02 is open to visitors from 5 p.m. and after Tilman Pfau's talk at 7 p.m. Get into touch with researchers from the Center for Integrated Quantum Science and Technology (IQST), and the Carl Zeiss Center for Quantum Photonics (QPhoton). Learn more about QuantumBW, the quantum technology initiative of Baden-Württemberg. Hands-on physics will be provided by the team of the physics education department. \n \n
