The 5th Institute of Physics congratulates its visiting professor, Prof. Dr. Óscar Andrey Herrera Sancho (Universidad de Costa Rica, San José), on his outstanding performance in this year's STADTRADELN (City Cycling Campaign) in Stuttgart. Cycling nearly 2,500 kilometers during the 21-day campaign, he became the top cyclist within the University of Stuttgart team and made a significant contribution to the University's excellent overall result.
In second and third place on the team from the 5th Institute of Physics were Aaron Götzelmann with 1,028 kilometers and Paul Uerlings with 489 kilometers. This year, 359 students and staff members from the University of Stuttgart covered more than 82,000 kilometers by bicycle. As a result, the University finished among the top three teams in Stuttgart for the third consecutive year. Together, participants helped avoid approximately 13.5 tons of CO₂ emissions, demonstrating the University's strong commitment to sustainable mobility and climate protection.
For the 5th Institute of Physics, Prof. Herrera Sancho's achievement is a particular source of pride. As a visiting professor, he conducts research on spatially resolved physics of ultracold Rydberg systems. "For me, cycling is much more than a means of transportation. It is the most sustainable, healthiest, and often the most efficient way to get around the city.
